Mobile Internet will soon begin to slow down and fail. What's the matter?

The global mobile Internet infrastructure is not keeping up with the pace of consumption. This was reported in Kommersant with reference to research by Ericsson.

According to the source, the largest companies serving the servers of mobile operators are sounding the alarm regarding the load on the equipment. They fear that very soon the existing "iron" components of the Internet will no longer cope with the influx of traffic.

There are indeed reasons for concern. Ericsson has released its Mobility Report, which reveals unexpected details about the worldwide use of mobile internet. According to the company, from the end of 2021 to March 2022, the total amount of mobile traffic consumed increased by 10%. In total, humanity consumes approximately 1.048 million terabytes every month.

It is curious how fast the appetites of people on the planet are growing. Compared to the first quarter of 2021, mobile traffic consumption increased by 40%, and compared to the first quarter of 2020, by as much as 100%. That is, in just two years, the consumption of mobile traffic in the world has doubled. Ericsson believes that the reason for this is the explosive growth in viewing video content, which is also becoming more and more high-quality and heavy.
